Cool Brains!
Inprint Readings for Young People
The 2012/2013 season of Cool Brains! Inprint Readings for Young People begins in the fall. The season will include bestselling children’s author Lois Lowry on October 14th, Jon Scieszka on February 24th, and more.
In January 2007, Inprint launched a family reading series, Cool Brains! Inprint Readings for Young People. The series brings the country’s most exciting children’s authors to Houston for readings and book signings, free and open to the public. The series focuses on authors of books for 3rd - 6th graders.
Readings takes place on Sunday afternoons, 3 pm, now regularly held at Johnston Middle School. Each of the writers gives a lively presentation about his or her work and then takes questions from the audience. The on-stage portion of the event is followed by a book sale and signing, where kids can meet their favorite author. Inprint conducts three Cool Brains! readings per year.
The 2011/2012 season featured Pseudonymous Bosch, Christopher Paul Curtis, and Trenton Lee Stewart. The series has featured Katherine Paterson, Marc Brown, David Macaulay, Kate DiCamillo, Gary Paulsen, and many others.
Cool Brains! Inprint Readings for Young People is generously underwritten by H-E-B and The Brown Foundation, Inc., and receives in-kind support from United Airlines. Cool Brains! receives promotional support from the Harris County Public Library, Houston Independent School District Library Services, and Houston Public Library. Blue Willow Bookshop is the Series’ independent bookseller.
