Fiction writer Peter Carey read from and talked about his work as part of the 2010-2011 Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series--the Series' 30th anniversary season--on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Alley Theatre, in Downtown Houston.

Australian born Peter Carey, considered one of the most celebrated authors of our time, is only the second writer to twice win the Man Booker Prize, the highest literary award of the British Commonwealth and Ireland. The author of 11 critically acclaimed novels, Carey rose to acclaim in the early 70s and his major works include Oscar and Lucinda (winner of the Booker Prize), Illywhacker (shortlisted for the Booker), True History of the Kelly Gang (winner of the Booker), and Jack Maggs (based on characters from Dickens’ Great Expectations). He read from and talked about his latest book Parrot and Olivier in America, also nominated for a Booker. The reading was followed by an on-stage interview conducted by Houston novelist Robert Cremins.
